The "Abomination of Desolation" is a prophetic phrase found in the Bible, primarily in the books of Daniel, Matthew, and Mark, and it refers to a desecrating event or object that defiles a sacred place—typically the temple in Jerusalem.
Where It Appears in Scripture
Daniel 9:27; 11:31; 12:11: These verses speak of a future ruler who will stop daily sacrifices and set up an abomination in the temple that causes desolation.
Matthew 24:15–16: Jesus references Daniel, saying, “So when you see standing in the holy place ‘the abomination that causes desolation,’ spoken of through the prophet Daniel—let the reader understand—then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.”
