Baptism in Christ Symbolism:
Death: Going under the water represents dying to sin.
Burial: Being submerged symbolizes being buried with Christ.
Resurrection: Emerging from the water signifies rising to new life in Christ.
Matthew 3:16 – “When Jesus was baptized, he went up immediately from the water…” This implies Jesus was fully immersed.
Acts 8:38–39 – Philip and the Ethiopian eunuch “went down into the water” and “came up out of the water.” A clear example of immersion.
Romans 6:4 – “We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death…” Baptism as burial strongly suggests immersion2.
Colossians 2:12 – “Having been buried with him in baptism…” Again, the burial metaphor aligns with full submersion.
